A great spot in Jersey City if you're craving rice noodles. The dishes are all packed with flavor and taste like authentic Yunnan cuisine. Our favorite dishes were the chicken stir-fried noodles and chicken soup. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, and the service was so quick and very friendly! I highly recommend this hidden gem in Jersey City (right off the Grove St PATH station).

📍 South of the Clouds, Jersey City, NJ If you're looking for authentic Yunnan cuisine in Jersey City, South of the Clouds is absolutely worth a visit. It's only a few minutes from the PATH, making it an easy spot to get to, and the bright, welcoming interior immediately made a great first impression. I visited on a Saturday around 6:30 PM, and the restaurant started filling up shortly after we arrived, so I'd recommend getting there early if you're visiting on a weekend. The service was excellent throughout the meal, and the staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered several dishes, and honestly, the portion sizes were impressive. You definitely get a lot of food for your money. 🥩 The smoked pork slices were my favorite savory dish of the night. The pork was incredibly tender, flavorful, and packed with a rich smoky taste that kept me going back for more. 🍜 The Szechuan spicy peanut noodles with chicken were another standout. The noodles had a great balance of spice and nuttiness, and I loved the signature Szechuan flavor. South of the Clouds in Jersey City was honestly one of the most flavorful meals I’ve had in a while. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor from the first bite. The truffle fried rice was rich and addictive without being overwhelming. The roasted chicken thigh was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also loved the spicy chicken with peanuts even though I normally don’t eat spicy food often. The portions were generous and perfect for sharing with friends or family. If you’re looking for comforting food with bold flavors, this spot is definitely worth visiting.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Jersey City! I’ve ordered from here so many times that I started recommending it to my coworkers too — and now they’re obsessed as well 😂 Their roasted chicken is incredibly flavorful and juicy, and the grilled pork neck is honestly a must-try. Every rice noodle dish we’ve tried has been amazing too. Comfort food but with really authentic flavors. It’s hard to find a place where literally everything we ordered was good. Highly recommend if you want authentic Chinese food with great quality and generous portions!

Absolutely loved the experience at South of the Clouds! If you’re looking for something beyond typical Chinese food, this place brings authentic Yunnan flavors that are truly unique. We tried the Yunnan fried stuffed tofu, which was perfectly crispy outside and soft inside, packed with flavor. The traditional Kunming braised noodles were comforting and rich—definitely a must-have. The black truffle fried rice was next-level, super aromatic and indulgent. The chicken stir-fried noodles were flavorful and well-balanced, and to finish, the fresh coconut cream was refreshing and light—perfect ending to the meal. The ambiance is cozy and modern, and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, a hidden gem in Jersey City for authentic Chinese cuisine with a twist. Highly recommend!
